| | I woke up early, brought my daughter to her mental math class and then rode the LRT2 to Legarda. It's my first time to use my new lumix to shoot the streets. At first I was so frustrated because my timing was very off...the shutter took a little while to capture the decisive moments as I walked the streets of Quiapo. After a while...the world around me seemed to slow down as I reversed the process. I remembered the movie "Matrix" as I consciously weaved in and out of the hustle and bustle that was Quiapo. As my sweat began to break so did my fear. This camera is fantastic!!!! Very stealthy because it makes no shutter sound at all, the body is all black and the lens has a HUGE opening at f2.0-2.4 and with the 28-90 mm Leica Vario-Summicron lens...the DMC LC-1 is perfect for street photography.hehehehe I found a jewel at last. But of course...the little M4 on my other shoulder is still the king! |

Rangefinder cameras: a perfect companion for shooting the streets. (L-R) Leica 1G (loaned from Angie De Silva, Leica m4-2, Fed-3 , Fed-2, Zorki-4K.
The leica !G, a medical camera for use with microscopes but can also be used for street shooting when fitted with an auxiliary viewfinder and a wide-angle lens.Very quiet unobtrusive shutter. The M4-2 is my favorite everyday vamera for shooting almost anything.I used to shoot heavily with my battered M3(not in photo) but since it needs some "Cleaning, Lubrication and Adjustments" (CLA), I have kept it in my dry box for a while. With influence from my friends from the RFFilipinas (RFF), I started buying FSU rangefinder camers. These Ruskies are cheap but they are also reliable and just the right size for my hands. The FED-2 is my favorite and it;s the nearest to a Leica in terms of handling but the FED-3 is my choice for general shooting because it is outfitted wall speeds from 1/100 down to B settings unlike the FED-2 which can only shoot down to 1/30th of a second plus B or bulb setting. The Zorki 4k is the quirkiest of all the russian cameras i have. You have to be carefu when using it because you might completely ruin it if you accidentally changed shutter speeds before winding the crank, which is funny looking and very crudely designed for my taste.
The only thing that matter to me is that all these camera buddies have a soul of their own. They have been handled by different people with a passion and love for film and rangefinder photography and these qualities might rub off on me. hehehehe

| | Komrade Fed 3 has arrived from the Ukraine and I will put it to the test on Saturday.
Notes: Komrade FED-3 .clean body, all shutter speeds seem to be working...The leader case really smells like the USSR....oily and industrialized smell. The lens, an Industar 61/LD 55mm f 2.8 has no fungus and is famed to be one of the sharpest lenses in the russian arsenal of lenses. All for just PHP 1983.00 on Ebay courtesy of brother Wam Mollina. |

I have been dreaming of owning the FUJI GW670 rangefinder but it seems that it will stay a dream because a friend who wouldn't dare sell it just loaned it to me for a few days.
A slideshow of images taken in the Bay Area during a hiatus in my photojournalism career. A crucial period in my personal search for meaning and purpose. The rich culture of San Francisco brought a reawakening that showed me back the path to documenting life in images. These images were roughly scanned and unedited. Originally compiled as part of the Rfilipinas community gatherings and interaction. Rfilipinas is a group of men and women with a passion for rangefinder cameras, storytelling, good food, music and everything in between. VTS_01_1_PocketPC_luis.avi (6.3 MB)
