Rangefinder cameras: a perfect companion for shooting the streets.
(L-R) Leica 1G (loaned from Angie De Silva, Leica m4-2, Fed-3 , Fed-2, Zorki-4K.
The leica !G, a medical camera for use with microscopes but can also be used for street shooting when fitted with an auxiliary viewfinder and a wide-angle lens.Very quiet unobtrusive shutter. The M4-2 is my favorite everyday vamera for shooting almost anything.I used to shoot heavily with my battered M3(not in photo) but since it needs some "Cleaning, Lubrication and Adjustments" (CLA), I have kept it in my dry box for a while. With influence from my friends from the RFFilipinas (RFF), I started buying FSU rangefinder camers. These Ruskies are cheap but they are also reliable and just the right size for my hands. The FED-2 is my favorite and it;s the nearest to a Leica in terms of handling but the FED-3 is my choice for general shooting because it is outfitted wall speeds from 1/100 down to B settings unlike the FED-2 which can only shoot down to 1/30th of a second plus B or bulb setting. The Zorki 4k is the quirkiest of all the russian cameras i have. You have to be carefu when using it because you might completely ruin it if you accidentally changed shutter speeds before winding the crank, which is funny looking and very crudely designed for my taste.
The only thing that matter to me is that all these camera buddies have a soul of their own. They have been handled by different people with a passion and love for film and rangefinder photography and these qualities might rub off on me. hehehehe
